Mike Read has won ten National Broadcaster of the Year Awards, an International Music award, and was awarded the coveted Gold Badge of Merit for his special contribution to Britain’s music industry. A household name in Britain for forty years having fronted three top-rated long-running BBC TV series, Top of the Pops, Pop Quiz & Saturday Superstore and three national radio breakfast shows, including Radio One and Classic FM. He features regularly on the re-runs of Top of the Pops on BBC Four and has presented two Pop Quizspecials for the BBC in 2017 and has just recorded two new episodes for 2020. Mike has just celebrated 2 years of presenting the global breakfast show on United DJs Radio anddoes regular presentations for the TV Training Academy at Pinewood Studios. With Mike Stock has produced a new TV series That Was Then This Is Now a Top of the Pops for the new decade which is transmitted at the end of 2020.
Mike was created a Knight of Malta in 2011. As Chairman of the British Plaque Trust he also devised and spearheaded the 50 Blue Plaques to music icons for BBC Music Day in 2017. During 2018 he has expanded the Blue Plaque scheme into the Commonwealth including Barbados and Malta. Mike is also an Ambassador for the Prince’s Trust, founder of the Rupert Brooke Museum & Society, and was Chairman of the Lords and Commons Entertainment Committee for several years.
2016 & 2017 saw him presenting front line programmes for the BBC as well as producing and presenting a new TV song-writing series, Tin Pan Alley, which ran for 8 weeks on Sky in 2016/17. A global distributor is now selling the format to territories around the world. in 2020 Mike created the world’s first Heritage Chart which has been a phenomenal success on the radio.
During 2016 and 2017 he was writing, shooting, producing and presenting a six part series Jamaicaphiles, working with the Jamaican Tourist Board and shot entirely in Jamaica, featuring Noel Coward, Oscar Hammerstein, Ian Fleming, Errol Flynn, John F. Kennedy and Johnny Cash.
A best-selling author, he has had more than forty books published, those currently available include his autobiography Seize the Day, Forever England, a biography of Rupert Brooke, 1,000 Years of Caversham Park and his latest book, “The Writing on the Wall….British Blue Plaques.” There will be a follow-up book. More Writing on the Wall .. His latest book A Thousand Years of a London Street….Denmark Street, was published in August 2019 and he has finished the follow-up A Thousand Years of Cheapside, with A Thousand Years of Piccadilly being written at the moment. Another book which is to be published in 2021 is Words of Love a celebration of some of the world’s biggest artists, all recipients of Buddy Holly guitars from the Buddy Holly Educational Foundation and Buddy’s widow, Maria Elena.
Mike has written several film scripts had eight musicals staged and penned songs for over forty major artists including Cliff Richard, The Bee Gees, Marc Almond, Boy George, Gene Pitney, Don McLean, Brian Wilson, Barry & Robin Gibb, Donovan, David Essex, Steve Harley, Peter Andre, Justin Hayward and many others. Mike has had several chart hits, twice topped the Independent singles chart and won the TV Theme of the Year Award.. He currently has a best-selling CD featuring his settings of Rupert Brooke’s War Sonnets, featuring the Kings College Choir & the Eton College Chapel Choir. One of his songs made the top 40 in Australia and in March 2019 one of his songs went No.1 North American Chart. 2021 also sees his musical Great Expectations undertaking another national tour.
He has played himself in such perennial TV favourites as Only Fools and Horses and Midsomer Murders and has interviewed several visiting American Icons for major stage productions over the last two years, including Sylvester Stallone, Al Pacino and Jerry Lee Lewis. As well as interviewing 100s of major artists on his live TV show, Mike has also presented for and worked with most of the Royal Family, including HM the Queen, Prince Philip, Prince Charles and The Princess of Wales.
He regularly travels to different parts of the world broadcasting or giving talks, including, Russia, Estonia, Australia, the USA, Malta, Jamaica, Mexico, Nicaragua, Hawaii, Honolulu, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Sweden, France, Spain, Portugal, Bermuda, South Africa, Turkey, The Canary Islands, Greece, Croatia, Italy, the Canary Islands, the Azores and many of the Caribbean Islands.
Lazar was born in the United Kingdom in 1986 to parents of Yugoslav origin. His business interests include marketing, real estate, distribution and entertainment.
An entrepreneur from a young age at school, during lunch breaks Lazar was usually found at the centre of the playground selling sweets to personalised cassette tapes.
Whilst studying for an Accounting & Finance degree at DeMontfort University Leicester he was also a keen sportsman, playing basketball professionally.
At the age of 21 he set up a property development company specialising in residential development in Montenegro.
Finding his feet quickly and making his name, he sought further opportunities and began exporting wines from Europe to the UK.
Having quickly realised he had a talent for trade, he then went on to open a small chain of UK high street toy stores.
In 2013 Lazar launched LV Productions which specialised in producing video content for the music industry, it was here that he learned he had a passion to put his creative skills to work.
Lazar set up a new division for a London based games company to trade in the CEE & CIS territories. Setting up the business from zero in Russia, Greece, Serbia, Montenegro, Croatia and more, Lazar got to work and the company quickly became a trading success in these regions securing multimillion pound distribution and promotional deals.
In 2017 Lazar became a board director of Lifeline Humanitarian Organisation under the patronage of HRH Crown Princess Katherine of Serbia.
Lazar is also a UK & IRE delegate to the Serbian diaspora assembly and a board member of the Serbian Council of Great Britain.
He also serves as a trustee to the Serbian Orthodox Church & Memorial Hall Corby where his father was the rector of the second purpose built Serbian Orthodox Church in the UK.
He founded ilovedigital.co.uk, a London based full stack marketing agency delivering web and app design & development, SEO, content creation and marketing campaigns to multinational clients.
Lazar also heads up Wolf Entertainment, a production company specialising in film production, distribution and format creation. Lazar directed & produced ‘Boycie in Belgrade’ starring John Challis, a documentary about the popularity of Only Fools and Horses in Serbia in 2020. The documentary enjoyed an international theatrical release and has proven popular around the world.
He set up In Short Supply in 2020 as a solution for distributors and retailers dealing in FMCG & Toys during the pandemic. The company trades in excess, clearance and discontinued stock.
